RCEME Day

On 24 February 1944 by General Order 127, the Governor General authorized the formation of Canadian Electrical and Mechanical Engineers (CEME) effective 1 February 1944. Royal approval was received on 2 April 1944 and the official title became RCEME.

On 19 May 1944 Privy Council approved the transfer of units to the new corps effective 15 May 1944. Although RCEME units had been designated as early as January 1943 in Britain and Italy to enhance Allied cooperation, 15 May 1944 is taken as the official birthday of the Corps.

RCEME Day is an event held across Canada to encourage the Esprit de Corps and celebrate the creation of the Corps of RCEME members, on May 15, 1944.
