Brigadier General Heather Morrison, OMM, CD

Born and raised in the Annapolis Valley, Nova Scotia, BGen Heather Morrison joined the Canadian Army in 1994 as an Electrical and Mechanical Engineering (EME) officer. After obtaining a mechanical engineering degree at the Royal Military College of Canada (RMC) Kingston, and completing her occupational training at the Royal Canadian Electrical and Mechanical Engineer (RCEME) School, she had the good fortune of serving two years with the British Army in Germany.

On return to Canada in 2001, BGen Morrison did several command and staff jobs within 1 Canadian Mechanized Brigade Group (1 CMBG) in Edmonton, including her maintenance officer tour with 1st Battalion, Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry (1 PPCLI). After a number of staff posts in Ottawa from 2006-2009 in both the Materiel Group and the Canadian Expeditionary Force Command (CEFCOM), she returned to Edmonton to command Administration Company, 1 Service Battalion (1 Svc Bn), followed by a tour as the G4, 1 CMBG.

Between 2011 and 2016, BGen Morrison completed the Joint Command and Staff Program in Toronto, served as project staff for the Medium-Range Radar and the Tactical Armoured Patrol Vehicle, and worked as a planner at the newly-formed Strategic J4 within the Strategic Joint Staff (SJS). Following a year as G4, 5th Canadian Division in Halifax, she assumed command of 1 Svc Bn in June 2017. On promotion to colonel, she served as Director of Force Sustainment (DFS) in Canadian Special Operations Force Command (CANSOFCOM) before transitioning to Commander of the Canadian Forces Joint Operational Support Group (CFJOSG).

From July 2023-2024 Colonel Morrison completed her DP4 at the Royal Collage of Defense Studies in London, England. Upon returning to Canada she was promoted to Brigadier General on 7 July 2024 and currently holds the position Chief of Staff Army Operations.

BGen Morrison holds a Masters of Defence Studies from the Canadian Force College and a Masters of Business Administration from Athabasca University. Her operational deployments include tours to Kosovo, Bosnia and Kandahar, Afghanistan. She is proud and honored to have the support of her husband and their two strong boys.
